Change of PGI Seminar Speaker

The PGI seminar this Friday, June 12 at 1pm in room 102 was originally scheduled to have Dr. Sherry Flint-Garcia, USDA/ARS speaking about Using diverse Zea germplasm to understand agronomic traits. However due to a scheduling conflict,  Dr. Melissa Mitchum, Plant Sciences will be speaking about Worming your way into legumes, the location and time have not changed.

From the Career Center: We’re hiring!

The MU Career Center is now  hiring Career-Specialists! Apply to get valuable training, work in a friendly environment, and help fellow students with their career journey. Career Specialists are students who help other students with career decisions such as what to major in, what career direction to pursue, how to best write a resume, and how to find employment opportunities.

To apply, please attend one of our information sessions on Monday, October 6th (5:30-6:30 pm), Wednesday, October 8th (6:30-7:30 pm), or Thursday, October 9th (5:30-6:30 pm). The sessions will be held in the lower level of the Student Success Center in the MU Career Center. If you cannot attend or would like more information, please contact the MU Career Center at (573) 882-6801 or

All students are encouraged to apply. Students must be available next semester (Spring 2009) and at least more two semesters to work. To preview the job description, see

Dr. Stuart Ravnik, Assistant Dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas will be on campus THIS WEDNESDAY (September 24) recruiting for graduate students.

* Drop in hour to meet with interested students: 2:30-3:30 pm, Room 104 Bond Life Sciences Center

* Presentation to undergraduates (hosted by SURLS-Society for Undergraduate Researchers in Life Sciences- & LS UROP): 5:30-6:30 pm, Room 121 Bond Life Sciences Center

Dr. Ravnik will be presenting information on PhD programs in the basic biomedical sciences (see list below), the MD/PhD program, and the summer research internship program in Dallas. Even if you are not applying this year for graduate school, this is a great way to get thinking about what programs you will want to begin exploring. Juniors, sophomores and freshmen ARE very much welcome to attend!!!!

Check out 11th annual MU Study Abroad Fair!

The MU Study Abroad Team is proud to announce the 11th annual MU Study Abroad Fair to be held on Tuesday, September 9 from 11:00 am 3:00 pm in Stotler Lounge!  The fair is the Study Abroad Team’s most comprehensive informational event of the year.  All students, faculty, and staff interested in learning more about MU’s study abroad opportunities should plan to attend.  The fair will include representatives from a variety of MU colleges and departments, study abroad returnees, and representatives from many of MU’s Partner Programs.  For additional information on available study abroad programs, please visit the MU International Center website at

End of Summer Updates

Summer is drawing to a close soon. It’s our last week and we’ve got a few things for you to keep in mind:

*The last newsletter is here. Read it because there won’t be any others any time soon (our office’s newsletter resumes on a monthly basis in September and is called The Connection!)

*The Megan Boyer Band will now be playing at our post-Forum picnic on Thursday, July 31st at 5 p.m. Megan Boyer herself is pictured to the left. According to her website,
